Funk investigators

Colectivo Bruxista is an editorial project, heir to the fanzine Bruxismo, which was born with a clear idea: to investigate the margins of popular culture and share its findings with readers.

We made the illustration for the editorial cover of the book Funk investigators, by Alberto Zanini, for the publishing house Colectivo Bruxista. A red-coloured version was adapted for the cover, the original illustration being printed separately as a postcard and gift poster.

Funk Investigators recounts the process of personal and professional revival that led Alberto Zanini to found Cannonball Records, a label specializing in rescuing old forgotten funk and soul jewels. The result is a book that is both an autobiography and a musical novel. A contemporary road trip that connects the present with 20th century popular culture and pays tribute to the history of African-American music. A tribute to artists such as Lonnie Liston Smith, Gil Scott Heron, The Drifters and so many others who failed to reach the charts.
